WESTWORLD Series Review -
I'm back to speak about a new TV series, which is "Westworld". As you can probably tell, I am filming with a different angle, because I realized that you guys could just barely see my head popping out from the bottom of screen so I thought you can probably see me better like this right now.
"Westworld" is a TV series created for HBO by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy. And it speaks about a western themed amusement park in the future in which high paying customers can enter and experience an alternative reality to their own.

So they can enter this park and interact with synthetic androids called "hosts", which just look like normal people. And they can do absolutely anything they want in this park. So they can visit the western village, they can travel in the countryside behind the village, they can interact with these hosts, they can do basically anything they want with these hosts, even injure them.
In the first episode of "Westworld", the creators of the park start to notice that something is going wrong with the androids, they start to display erratic behaviours, they start to behave in a strange way.
So they try to find a solution to the problem, because all the hosts together in this park, create an intricate pattern of storylines, which if are even slightlty changed will ruin the general costumer experience in this park.
The main characters include Dolores, portrayed by Evan Rachel Wood, which is a host in the park, which starts to realise that maybe the reality she's seeing, isn't the only reality that exists. Then we have for example Dr. Ford, the creator of Westworld, which is portrayed by Anthony Hopkins As a matter of fact in "Westworld" we can distinguish between three different categories of characters.
So we have the creators of the park, which play god with these people in the park using them as puppets, not caring about what happens to them in the park, not caring about the consequences and they just care about being payed by these costumers and giving them the best experience, regardless of the consequences.
Then we have the hosts which are basically just puppets in the hands of the creators. Some of them start to realise that maybe what they're seeing isn't the only reality. Then we have the guests. The guests are totally disrespectful of the hosts and of the park, they don't care about the consequences of their actions inside the park.
They just assume that because they're paying this high amount of money, they can do whatever they want in the park, with whoever they want. And obviously there is the Nolan trademark of analysing very well the characters' mind, pushing our mind to the limit, creating deep and meaningful content, which always debated our reality.
So "Westworld" combines elements of horror, thriller and science fiction in a beautiful way. "Westworld" represents a future dystopian reality, not too far from the one we live in right now. Because it's a reality in which people aren't satisfied with the life they normally live.
They want something more, they want more stimulation, they want more dominance on other people, they need something more in their life. But it obviously has some consequences because as we see, the guests in the park just want to have everything they want, straight away, regardless of the consequences, regardless of their actions. There's this need to be in control of the situation.
The score of the first episode underlines the anachronism of "Westworld". Because the whole series is set in the future but Westworld is actually set in an old western village. And the score contains pieces from the Rolling Stones, Soundgarden, Johnny Cash. And as Ramin Djawadi, the composer of the score, underlined these songs show how everything in this world is scripted.

Everything in this world is not real and so these very recognisable songs straight away make us realise that they shouldn't be there in this western village. It tells us that what we're seeing is not reality The second episode of "Westworld", starts to analyse how the park actually works, so how you can enter the park, if there is a deeper level to it.
And I can't wait to see how the series will continue also because it is potentially a future "Game of Thrones" for HBO. Because it appeals to a wide audience and it has this really interesting plot. It is a plot that has been brought up already, for example in "The Matrix" which is a completely different idea but it is still one of those films in which your reality is debated.
Even in very less famous films, for example "Gamer", which is from a few years ago we had the idea of an alternative reality. So it is a very interesting topic, which will appeal to a widespread audience.
Let me know what you thought about "Westworld", with a comment here below and if you didn't see it definitely check it out, because I'm sure you would absolutely love it, I would really really recommend it.
